As Jesus told his followers to preach the Gospel, we regard preaching as both a privilege and a duty that we take very seriously. We believe that Christianity is meant to be life changing and life enhancing and we want people to know what living as a Christian means now, and in God’s Kingdom to come.

Unlike many churches, Christadelphians do not compel or pressurise members to undertake activities, or to give money  or their time. All that is given is given freely and willingly. And people vary. What is easy for one person to do is difficult, or impossible, for another to do. But all people in the church can and do contribute something.
The most powerful positive example of preaching that can be undertaken is to preach by example, showing something of Jesus in our lives, and making other people want to know more about our beliefs because of the kind of people we are. The apostle Paul said much the same in his New Testament Letter to Titus.

This is something we all try to do. But sadly we often fail; and when we fail to follow the example of Jesus, our failings are often held against us by the very people we want to impress with the power of the Gospel. That, unfortunately , is life! Our personal failings don’t invalidate the Gospel. But they may make us feel small and look foolish, which may, of course, be exactly what we need!

Our other preaching activities take a wide range of forms. For decades we held regular Bible based lectures from the Labour Hall, as it was then. The lecture format was once popular, but in today’s era of sophisticated communications, it had become stale and attracted few people to come out on a Sunday evening. So we have changed, and now hold preaching activities at other times on Sunday and sometimes at other times in the week. The formats always include discussion, and may take the form of short talks, debates, drama, and workshops. We also always serve some refreshments ! The week’s activities are outlined on our What's On page, and on the notice board on Dorset Road.

We try to preach in other ways too, using the Internet, mass postal billings and fly billing in the street to advertise our activities.  Over the past several years we have held Bible Seminar series in the middle of the week, once or twice a year. These aim to take a more Adult Education oriented approach to teaching people about the Bible, and have proved to be very popular. A series is planned for this year, beginning in April. Details are here. If you would like to see and hear material from some of our other seminar series, then visit the seminar page.

Sometimes we involve ourselves with national preaching campaigns, and sometimes our preaching is just a quiet word or a smile. Sometimes we use unusual preaching methods, like our puppet show, or sometimes we use serious rigorous reasoning from God’s Word.

Whatever method we use, and however much or little preaching we do, we do it because we want to, because we want to show our appreciation to God for what He has done for us in Jesus, and because we want other people to know about these great things too.
